You are warmly invited to a Fund-raising Film Night 7pm in St Peter and St John's Church Sunday 23rd October. Please bring along some friends too!
One of the young people in church watched a very powerful and moving film back in the summer with his family and ever since then he has wanted to do something to do something that in some small way might make a difference to refugees, particularly those fleeing from Sudan. The Good Lie is the story of a group of children who are forced to flee their village during the civil war in Sudan. They trek hundreds of miles to reach a refugee camp from where they are given the chance of a new life in America. The story is by turns shocking, moving, funny, tragic and yet uplifting (you may need tissues!) It's 105 mins long and is a CERT 12. It will make you think and, hopefully, will make you want to give a generous donation for the tea, coffee, cake and refreshments that will be available. There will also be Christmas cards for sale on the evening. There is no charge for the evening but along with the film we will give a little presentation about an amazing girls school that we have supported in Sudan called Ibba Girls School. This month has seen the UN's International Day of the Girl Child and we hope this event will allow you to feel part of a fantastic work in Sudan that offers real hope of change in a desperate bleak part of the world for young women. All the donations from the evening will go to support Ibba Girls School. For more info on Ibba please see http://www.ibbagirlsschool.org/ For UN International Day of the Girl Child http://www.un.org/en/events/girlchild/
