We are an Eco Church

In March 2017 our church signed up to the A Rocha UK Eco Church programme, an initiative aimed at supporting churches to care for God's world and to address climate change. In November 2020 we were awarded with a prestigious Silver Eco Church Award.

Some of the change we have made to become a more sustainable and church include measuring the carbon foot print of our church premises;  changed our utility provider to a green energy supplier;  installed LED lighting in the church and church hall; motion activated lighting in the corridor and toilet area; in 2019 we installed a A+ rated gas boiler replacing the old oil filled boiler, installed dual flush buttons to our toilet cisterns and double glazing to the newer parts of our building.   We recycle as much of our waste as possible and participate in a number of Terracyle community recycling schemes and have a large composting area for our green and brown waste.  Outside we have installed water butts to collect rain water and have dedicated areas for wildlife including a wildflower area and pond and have developed a community veg beds scheme, which provide free fruit and vegetables to the parish .

Community Prayer Garden

In 2019 we secured a grant from Rugby Borough Council to develop an unused and uncared for piece of land at the side of our building into a community prayer garden, with particular focus on providing pollinator friendly planting and dedicated areas for wildlife, including a pond.

Community Action & Engagement

Community Recycling Hub

We have teamed up with TerraCycle UK to provide a community collection hub for a number of Terracycle's recycling programmes.  We collect for:
  • The Walkers Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme (any brand of crisp packet is accepted)
  • The Pilgrims Choice Recycling Scheme (any brand of flexible cheese packaging accepted)
  • The Burt's Bees Personal Care Recycling Programme (any brand of specific beauty products accepted including eye-shadow compacts, lip, cheek & highlighter sticks, mascara tubes and wands, lipsticks, lip glosses and lip balm plastic tubes, facewipe packaging, flexible plastic and metallic plastic tubes for body creams, ointments or moisturisers)
These items are then sorted and sent back to Terracycle UK where they are separated by polymer type and cleaned (if necessary). The material is then extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products such as benches, playground equipment, and garden beds. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.

Composting

We recycle as much as we possibly can through Rugby Borough Council's roadside recycling scheme and have a large composting area for our green and brown waste.   The compost we make is then put back into our flower and veg beds.    If you would like to start composting your own green and brown waste you can purchase compost bins at discounted prices from RBC.
